This condition affects bladder control, resulting in urinary retention or incomplete emptying, creating an environment conducive to bacterial growth. The impaired sensation of bladder fullness can delay urination, increasing the risk of infection. Additionally, autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis can contribute to urinary tract infections indirectly. These conditions often involve systemic inflammation and may necessitate immunosuppressive therapies, which diminish the body’s ability to combat infections. Furthermore, medications such as corticosteroids can further weaken immune defenses, making recurrent UTIs more common in these patients.
