creasing the likelihood of nerve compression or degeneration.

A family history of the condition may also increase susceptibility, suggesting a genetic component. Additionally, underlying vascular conditions like hypertension or atherosclerosis can contribute to nerve compression episodes.

Understanding the causes of trigeminal neuralgia helps guide treatment options. Medical management often involves anticonvulsant medications such as carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine, which stabilize nerve activity. For cases caused by vascular compression, surgical options like microvascular decompression can relieve pressure on the nerve. Other surgical techniques, including gamma knife radiosurgery or nerve blocks, may be considered when medication fails to provide relief.
