MIGS A Glaucoma Treatment Option Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) has emerged as a promising treatment option for patients with glaucoma, especially for those in the early to moderate stages of the disease. Others bypass the trabecular meshwork—the primary site of increased resistance in glaucoma—by implanting tiny ste

nts that facilitate fluid drainage. These devices include iStent, Hydrus Microstent, and Trabectome, among others. The choice of procedure depends on the type and severity of glaucoma, as well as individual patient factors.

While MIGS is generally considered safe and effective, it is not suitable for all glaucoma patients. It is most beneficial for those with mild to moderate disease and may be used in conjunction with medications initially or as a step before more invasive surgeries. Long-term data are still being accumulated, but early results demonstrate significant reductions in IOP and a decreased dependence on glaucoma medications.
