Patients are advised to avoid activities that place excessive stress on joints, and physical therapy can help strengthen muscles around hypermobile joints, providing better stability and reducing dislocation risks.

Care strategies also emphasize skin protection, as hyperextensible and fragile skin is prone to tearing and poor wound healing. Using soft, non-adhesive dressings and careful handling helps prevent injury. Cardiovascular monitoring is vital, especially for those with vascular EDS, where arterial fragility can lead to spontaneous ruptures. Regular imaging studies and blood pressure control are part of ongoing care to detect and manage vascular issues early.

Emerging therapies and research aim to address the fundamental disease mechanisms, including gene editing and molecular therapies to correct or compensate for defective collagen production. However, these are still in experimental stages. Meanwhile, patient education remains crucial. Understanding how to modify activities, recognizing warning signs of complications, and maintaining open communication with healthcare providers can significantly reduce morbidity.
