For more severe cases or when multiple sutures are involved, open cranial vault remodeling is usually recommended. This procedure involves making an incision over the skull, then carefully removing and reshaping portions of the skull bones to correct deformities. The surgeon then reattaches the bones in a more typical configuration. This approach provides a more comprehensive correction and is often used in cases of complex

 

craniosynostosis or when significant skull deformity exists. Though it involves a longer surgical time and recovery period, it effectively addresses more severe deformities.

Another surgical option is fronto-orbital advancement, typically used for conditions like metopic synostosis or coronal synostosis with forehead or orbital deformities. This procedure involves advancing the forehead and the upper part of the eye socket to improve both skull shape and orbital positioning. It often results in a more normalized facial appearance and can alleviate pressure-related issues.

Advances in minimally invasive techniques have made early surgery more effective with reduced complications. Surgeons often tailor the approach based on the child’s age, skull deformity, and overall health, combining procedures or selecting less invasive methods when appropriate.
