In such cases, more aggressive treatments like radical cystectomy (removal of the bladder), chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination thereof are often necessary. Despite these measures, the five-year survival rate for muscle-invasive bladder cancer drops to around 50-60%, reflecting the increased difficulty in managing advanced stages.

In cases where the cancer has metastasized, the outlook becomes more guarded. Treatment primarily focuses on prolonging life and improving quality of life rather than cure. Chemotherapy regimens, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies are used to control disease progression. The five-year survival rate in metastatic bladder cancer is approximately 15-20%, underscoring the importance of early detection and intervention.

Recent advancements in medical research have introduced immunotherapy drugs such as checkpoint inhibitors, which have shown promise in improving outcomes for advanced bladder cancer patients. These therapies work by helping the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively. Clinical trials continue to explore novel treatments, aiming to increase cure rates and survival outcomes.

Regular screening is generally recommended for high-risk groups, particularly smokers and individuals with occupational exposures. Recognizing early symptoms, such as blood in the urine, frequent urination, or pelvic pain, can lead to earlier diagnosis and better prognosis.
