Additionally, environmental factors such as geographic location seem to play a role, with higher prevalence rates seen along the ancient Silk Road regions, including parts of the Middle East and Asia.

Hormonal influences and immune system dysregulation are also considered potential factors in the disease’s development. Since Behcet’s Disease often appears in young adults and adolescents, hormonal changes during puberty might influence immune responses. Moreover, an imbalance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines—molecules that regulate immune activity—may contribute to the disease process.

It is important to note that Behcet’s Disease is a complex condition with multifactorial causes. Its development in children involves a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental exposures, and immune system irregularities. Because of this complexity, diagnosing the disease can be challenging, often requiring careful evaluation of clinical symptoms and exclusion of other conditions.
